Trip for Orthodox Easter 15.04.2012.

Dapchevic field
There is something in these lands full of mountain peaks, that makes you wonder - what is out there? What could we find out next?

With a pocket full of hills, Montenegro is an destination for real adventurers. There is a joke about our country in which is described, how small our country is. but is that really true? If you start your trip from port of Bar, head up on old road towards Ulcinj, and than turn left on Sukobin border, and again left to end on Virpazar, it takes you aprox. 200 kms?! That isn't so small regarding that the road is sorrounding the massive of Rumija and Lisinj all together.

So, my mom have told me an amazing story of her discovery, when she last time went to Ostros, a place on that old road for Ulcinj. They went to Zoganje, and found a plate that tells about a monastery called Ostrog?!
We thought that she is trying to give us a beat to go there and explore but, she wasn't alone. As a fact there is only one world wide known monastery in Montenegro which is considered for big sacrificial place for all religions we know that come there. That monastery is on road between Podgorica and Niksic, and it is visited almost every day of a year, especially for Saint's birthday.

Road towards Zoganje

So we headed to find that on
e again with our mom but as you could possibly assume, we took one wrong turn and we couldn't go back. :) But the best things were just to come. We ended one of our wrong turns in one little village which is called St.George (as there live a great popularity of catholic Christians) and there was a lovely monumental building in honor to this saint.

It is a sculpture of this saint, which is killing his known enemy - the dragon, made as sort of relief and surrounded by stone walls in a little house which has big front doors, from which you can see the sculpture, and it has also side windows, which are letting the rays of sun get onto the picture and light it on magical way. As we were there around 4 o'clock while sun was still high, we couldn't catch that magic play of light so we took our best shots and put them here.

I hope you'll be amazed, as we were, when we saw this lovely sight of human devotion to Christian beliefs. This monument was built with so much love, and you can see that it is well cleaned and preserved from weather and years to come, as it was built 7 years ago (back in 2004.)

Monument of St. George
So it wasn't so bad after all, we found out about new things, monuments, and I wasn't lazy after all. I took and expedition over internet and wound a site of ours that speaks about that monastery, http://www.destination-montenegro.com/cg/ulcinj-crkvecg.htm the fifth row is talking about famous church we wanted to find, but I believe it will be our next and bigger motivation for next road towards unknown religion heritage.

Here are more shots about lovely spring in our country. I hope you'll enjoy and wait for more stories about our exploration travels :)
